Wednesday that avoids arbitration and will he Antworten

GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- Starter Homer Bailey agreed to a six-year, $105 million deal on Wednesday that avoids arbitration and will help the Cincinnati Reds with their cash flow by temporarily deferring some of the salary. The deal includes a $25 million mutual option for 2020 with a $5 million buyout. Bailey was the Reds final player left in arbitration. He reached the agreement a day before his scheduled hearing in Florida. He made $5.35 million last season and had asked for $11.6 million in arbitration. The Reds offered $8.7 million, their biggest gap with one of their arbitration-eligible players. The 27-year-old Texan was coming off a season that included his second no-hitter. The sides struck a deal that will help the Reds with their cash flow. Bailey gets salaries of $9 million this year, $10 million in 2015, $18 million in 2016, $19 million in 2017, $21 million in 2018 and $23 million in 2019. In an unusual twist, much of the annual salary will be deferred until the November after each season. Bailey will be paid in-season amounts of $3 million this year, $4 million next year, $11 million in 2016, $12 million in 2017, $14 million in 2018 and $15 million in 2019. If he is traded, his new team would have to pay all of the salary amounts during the season. Also, the $5 million buyout would be paid when either side decides not to exercise the option rather than having it deferred until November as well. The Reds planned to discuss the deal on Thursday. Bailey declined to comment on the agreement after a workout on Wednesday. Baileys was the last arbitration case left in the majors. Teams won two of three cases that went to hearings, with the Indians beating pitchers Vinnie Pestano and Josh Tomlin. Pitcher Andrew Cashner won his case with San Diego. Owners have a 293-215 margin since arbitration began in 1974. Bailey went a career-best 13-10 with a 3.68 ERA in 2012, completing his breakthrough season by throwing a no-hitter in Pittsburgh on Sept 28. He followed that with the 16th no-hitter in franchise history last June, a 3-0 win over San Francisco at Great American Ball Park. Bailey went 11-12 with a 3.49 ERA last year, leaving him in line for a big salary increase in arbitration or a long-term deal. Robin van Persie put United ahead in the 26th minute, pouncing on a rebound after Wayne Rooney had a shot blocked. But Southampton, one of the surprises of the league this season, troubled United throughout and claimed a deserved point when Lovren bundled in a corner from James Ward-Prowse in the 89th. United slipped eight points behind early leader Arsenal in what is proving to be a tough start to life at Old Trafford for new manager David Moyes, whose team lost 2-1 to West Bromwich Albion in its last home league game. The last time Southampton was in the north of England, Croatia defender Lovren scored the winner in a 1-0 victory at Liverpool to end the then-leaders unbeaten start to the season. The visitors started this game in the top four and wont be too far from the top of the table come the end of the season on this evidence. For United and Moyes, though, the problems continue. At times, they were outplayed by Southampton, with Van Persie and the ineffective Rooney being well shackled. Eleven points from eight games is a poor return for a club the size of United, which won the league by 11 points last season. Hours after signing a new five-year contract with United, Adnan Januzaj was handed another start and another chance to enhance his burgeoning reputaation.dddddddddddd The Belgium-born winger couldnt repeat his exploits of two weeks ago, when he scored twice in Uniteds come-from-behind win at Sunderland, but it was his incisive pass that led to Van Persies goal. Januzajs curling through-ball to Rooney put the England striker through, but his first-time shot was saved by Artur Boruc. The ball rebounded out to Van Persie, who rounded the goalkeeper and placed the ball to the side of the sprawling Lovren, who was covering on the line. In the second half, only a brilliant one-handed stop from Boruc denied Januzaj a goal following a swerving shot from 30 yards. Uniteds other best chance came soon after the goal, when Rooney smashed a volley against the crossbar. Otherwise, Southampton gave as good as it got in a further demonstration of the teams progress into perhaps a side that could challenge for a European place for next season. The visitors passing and movement, particularly in the first half, was impressive but there was a lack of cutting edge up front, with England striker Rickie Lambert only introduced off the bench just before the hour. Italy striker Dani Osvaldo wasted Saints best early opportunity, when he sidefooted straight at goalkeeper David de Gea after Rooney was dispossessed deep in Uniteds half. De Gea also had to produce a smart save with five minutes left from Nathaniel Clyne but he was denied a clean sheet when Lovren beat Phil Jones to an inswinging corner and prodded the ball home.
